Happy Spring!
It’s been a chilly April. Hopefully some warm May days are ahead. Regardless of the weather, there’s a lot happening at Saugatuck Public Schools this spring.
Recognition—As you are aware, Douglas Elementary School earned designation as a 2021 National Blue Ribbon High Performing School this year. DES is also ranked in the top 5% of Michigan Elementary Schools by US News & World Report.
Saugatuck Middle School is ranked in the top 11% of Michigan Middle Schools by US News and World Report and Saugatuck High School has been named one of America’s Best High Schools by US News & World Report for the 7th time in the last 8 years, ranked in the top 9% of Michigan High Schools and top 10% of high schools in the nation.
Teacher Appreciation Week— We love our teachers, and thank them for being charismatic adults who impact the lives of our students through caring relationships, engaging learning experiences, steadfast support and a growth mindset that believes all things are possible. We appreciate the extra time, effort, patience and persistence that our teachers give to make a difference in the lives of our students. Please join us in celebrating our fantastic teachers during National Teacher Appreciation Week, May 2nd trough 6th.
Student Activities—Student activities across the district are in full swing including community recreation, middle school & high school spring sports, robotics, band performances, DES game days, field trips, middle school musical, interact club trip to the Dominican Republic, high school band trip to Minneapolis, fifth grade Eloquence Day, sixth grade Salmon in the Classroom charter fishing trip, and eighth and ninth grade Washington D.C trip.
Commencement—Commencement will be held on May 26, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. outdoors in the stadium. The Saugatuck Public Schools board of education, administration, faculty and staff salute the 135th graduating class of Saugatuck High School, the SHS Trailblazers Class of 2022. We couldn’t be prouder of the young men and women in the Class of 2022 and wish them well as they forge their own paths through new learning experiences and life experiences.
Fifth Grade Graduation—The SHS Class of 2029 will celebrate their transition from Douglas Elementary School to Saugatuck Middle School at 6:00 p.m. on June 8, 2022 outdoors in the stadium.
School Calendar—The school calendar for the 2022-23 school year is attached. The first day of school will be August 29, 2022.
SPS Construction Update—Construction is moving along nicely at DES, while site work for the new band room and central office began on April 1, 2022. Check out the attached update to see our progress.
