Students in Danielle Hanna’s AP Visual Arts Class in our high school are challenged to produce a large portfolio showcasing their artistic growth within a sustained investigation of a theme.

This challenges Danielle to provide her students with a variety of experiences using advanced art techniques to help them create appealing, memorable portfolios.

Recently, she invited Douglas artist Ronna Alexander to come to her class to demonstrate encaustics, an ancient method of painting with hot wax on a porous surface such as wood or canvas.

It was a very cool lesson – click to read more about it.
