DEPARTMENT

Visual Arts

The Visual Arts Program at Saugatuck Public Schools offers students the chance to explore creativity, develop technical skills, and express themselves across a wide range of artistic media. From introductory courses to college-level studio work, our art curriculum is designed to inspire students at every level.

A Strong Foundation in the Arts

Saugatuck’s art program begins at the elementary level and continues through high school, allowing students to grow and evolve as artists year after year. In the high school’s trimester schedule, students can take a variety of art classes that include:

  • Life observation sketching
  • Graphic design
  • Photography
  • Clay and ceramics
  • Printmaking
  • Digital art and portfolio preparation

The advanced-level art classes partner with Kendall College of Art and Design, giving students the opportunity to earn college credit and prepare digital portfolios for future study or career pursuits.

Why Art Matters:

The Visual Arts program at SPS is more than just an elective – it’s a way for students to:

  • Build confidence and creative thinking
  • Learn technical and digital design skills
  • Express personal identity and emotional depth
  • Prepare for college and professional opportunities in the arts
  • Connect to a broader community of artists and creators

Explore Student Work:

We invite families, community members, and visitors to explore our students’ artwork – whether in our online gallery or during school exhibits.
